Gentilissima Prof.Pickens le invio il mio secondo assignment.Ringrazio anticipatamente.
In the second assignment I have selected " See artists in action" and I have seen the works of two artists:Ta Coumba Aiken and Judy Onofrio. Both are two contemporary artists and they used lines, primary, secondary and complementary colors, the figures represented are geometric and usually repetitive.Ta Coumba Aiken's work is called " Omnipotent".
In this work are represented human faces. The background is punctuated, the colors are bright and the artists used symmetric and asymmetric lines for sketched the form of the face.
Instead Judith Onofrio' s work is called Mrs.B. In this work are utilized various materials such as: glass, metal, ceramic, plastic, shells, pigment. The colours are bright. The artist represented a woman with eccentric dresses.
Between the two works I prefer the second work because is innovative.

I have seen all parts of the website.. and I have chosen to talk, a little bit, about “the toolkit”..
It was interesting to try of understanding how the artists work, how they build their pictures or their sculptures.
The construction of the draw with various kinds of lines brings, for example, Franz Marc to create a tiger or Van Gogh to create wonderful paintings with masterly matching of colors warms and/or cools.
In the section of the “space” I prefer “positive and negative”.. maybe for the cat that appears at the end of demonstration? And I love cats..
Always here, I have met again the “Ketoh”, the argument of my first assignment,
And I have found it also in “Balance”, when the site told about the symmetry .
I have also tried to make some pictures as the site invites to do in the third part of every section… but I prefer to draw a pitiful veil over the results…. however it was very funny!

Dear Ersilia and Ivana,
You are doing an EXCELLENT job explaining what you have done on each site! I especially like it wehn you both tell me what you like about the art, and how you compare things you have learned in the first assignment to things you have learned in the second one.

Just a couple of corrections:
If you are trying to give a reason 'why' someone does something, you can use 'to' instead of 'for' (when you use 'per' in Italian), for example: 'to sketch' the form of the face.
Also, pay attention to word order (SVO):
NOT 'In this work are utilized various materials' BUT 'Various materials are utilized in this work'.
In addition, remember that adjectives do not change with the subject: warm and cool do NOT need an 's'.

For the second assignment, I have chosen to explore the toolkit and I have been impressed by the section dedicated to space and in particular of linear and aerial perspective. I think it was the greatest invention of all time, because it has managed to make the space of reality on a flat surface.
The images of the site show that the first step for painting a picture with the prospect is to create a cone, whose top is the vanishing point. From the top of the cone, the elements of the picture come nearer to the viewer. Finally, the aerial perspective determines the horizon line.

Gentile prof.ssa Pickens,
dovrei sostenere l'esame il 6 ottobre 2010, le invio di seguito il mio primo commento.

For the second assignment I have chosen "see artists in action" in which two artists' works are shown and compared. The first work is made by Columba Aiken and the second one by Judy Onofrio. Comparing the two works, we can see that they both use a black cardboat on which they put different geometrical shapes. They also use the same colors: yellow, blue, red, green and white, but Aiken has got pre-cut shapes, while Onofrio cuts the shapes during her creation. Aiken's work seems to be more dynamic because he continuously moves the shapes on the black cardboard and here the tribal tradition is represented. On the other hand, Onofrio uses symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes that create a sort of mosaic. In addition they both represent human figures and create a game of overlapping shapes. In my opinion i prefer Onofrio's work because it's more careful to detail so that it attracts more my interest.

In the second Assignment my choice was “See Artists in Action” and I saw and listened two video about this so creative and original form of art. The artists are: Judith Onofrio and Ta-Coumba-Aiken. I find extraordinary what they succeed to create with simple material like paper or thin card board; the association of colors is wonderful. The fantasy plays a fundamental rule in their job. The work that I more liked was the statue situated in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, by the artist Judith Onofrio. I like that for the originality of performance, for a beautiful colors and because she used, in harmonious way, different materials, like: glass, metal, ceramic, plastic, wood, shells and pigments. I think that is a really ingenious work of art. But at the same time I appreciated another work: “Onnipotent”, by the artist Ta-Coumba-Aiken, an acrylic on paper, situated in The Walker Art Center. The artist, only using simple material like paper and same pigments, created a magnificent picture of contemporary art, and he carried out a good association of hot and cold colors.

I have choosen to scribe about the "Toolkit" which was very funny and interesting to explore. I think that it's a very simple way to explain how the artist had reflected for the colors to use and the effect they will be producing, how he created the dynimic of his painting and how he thought to create it. Personally, I prefer the animation about "Linear and Areal Perspective" which is one of my favourite artist because of his style and his subjects; the short animation shows us how he built the perspective with different plans which is very difficult to draw or to paint. Like this it's looks like very easy to do but for me it's one of hardest thing to create.

The animations are vary funny and the colours are vary strong and vivid but there is much purple and I don't like the sounds of the animations.
